If they succeed, they will be on the lead

The Slovak Power Machine Works (SES), a.s., based in Tlmače, are among the top designers and producers of steam boilers for power and heating plants using fossil, liquid and gas fuels. Since 1952 they supplied and commissioned over 350 steam boilers in 26 countries.

In addition to overhaul of the power industry equipment, many years of experience and a good reputation allow the Tlmače professionals also to build new custom made installations for the power industry. This involves not only excellent utilisation of the production capacity, but also the companyis joint participation of engineering and assembly capabilities.

According to Ján Kukučka, SES marketing director, a team of engineers took part at the technical contract discussions in China at the end of 1998. If they win the tender they will be awarded a contract to supply two Shen Tou power plant units.

SES, a.s. Tlmače should participate in this supply as part of the consortium consisting of the Czech companies Škoda Plzeň, Škoda Praha, and Škodaexport Praha. The implementation of the delivery over three years should substantially cover the production capacities of the company and contribute thus to a long-term job stability in the company.

The Shen Tou project will represent together with the fluid boiler for the Ukrainian power plant Starobeševo the two most important activities of the company over the next years. The joint supply of this type of boiler with Germany's Lurgi and Lentjes will mean a significant point of reference for the SES, a.s., as in terms of performance the fluid boiler would be the largest circulating fluid layer boiler produced in Tlmače ever.

The fluid boilers guarantee a reduced level of sulphur and nitrogen emissions in the boiler flue gas, complying thus with one of the crucial requirements for the ecological approach in production of the power and heating plants. They mastered the fluid lair combustion of fossil fuels in Tlmače with flying flags. This technology means a step up in quality, as a guarantee for high efficiency and ecologically acceptable combustion with substantially reduced emissions and with no need for auxiliary equipment. The fluid layer combustion and desulphuring process takes place in a combustion chamber as a circulating fluid stream of flue gas, ashes, fuel and additives. Imrich Páleš, marketing specialist, stated also other strong points of the Tlmače approach to design, limiting not only the SO2, NOX and chlorine effluents, but also reducing the space requirements, operation costs, simplified fuel transport, and in general shorter pipe routes, forming thus an advanced and progressive compact fluid boiler structure.

The SES, a.s.' ace in the sleeve, though, is apart from the compact construction of the unit, also verification of a new method of so called supported pressure system structure, resulting in a shorter period needed for the construction of the technological unit.
