On October 14 the representatives from North Slovakia Pulp and Paper Mill, a.s. (SCP), a Ruzomberok based company, received the Highest Award for Advance in Technology in Cesky Krumlov. This Award was delivered by the Czech Pulp and Paper Industry Society for the whole-size printed Ekopack paper. From among 14 registered products in the Advance in Technology Competition the special commission selected the North Slovakia Pulp and Paper Mill for their unique method of solution. The prize was awarded at the International Pulp and Paper Conference in Cesky Krumlov. Ekopack is a type of wrapping material with an increased resistance to the air humidity. It is used for applications where higher level of protection against humidity is required, e.g. for various paper sorts packaging. This year Ekopack replaced gradually polyethylene-layered paper with poor recycling properties difficult to decompose the biological way. Recyclability and biological decomposition are the advantage of the new product. Ekopack is medically harmless and can be used also for food packaging as a replacement for plastic foil and the polyethylene-layered paper. The producer can use flexographic printing to achieve a high aesthetic level. The Ekopack was developed in co-operation with the Pulp and Paper Research Institute and the suppliers of the Ukadur and Biocoat dispersions. The Ekopack U type is produced using the Ukadur dispersion and for Ekopack B the Biocoat dispersion is used. The decisive proportion in the company production has the Ekopack B material. It is used for wrapping the size A3 and A4 copying paper produced by the paper machine No. 8. Its current monthly production is 90 tons.
